For people that bring up the drug culture it is actually in line with what is now for anyone who listens to popular music for the past 10 yrs aka pop music. The movie was good not great, but good. Perfect lounging around movie. Every movie isn't gonna be Oscar nominated, but some just feel good. & this is one

The premise was intriguing, the girls performances were great. But imo, their years of friendship was not deeply explored. This is unfortunate, since the movie is emphasizing on their friendship.

Sign in to vote.It's one of those flat-lined movies it doesn't have ups and downs moments it just ends with the same pace that it started with, if you go in expecting some kind of a powerful message I would suggest you tone down your expectations. it's not bad it's just not great, i enjoyed the diversity and the sense of friendship that it had but that's about it.

I only wish there was more comedy or more backstory on the two friends of the main character. I really like this in the frame of his romcoms are evolving. While it's not for everyone, I really think we need more like this. More romcoms- for this age group and for older, too. (I'm especially needing this as therapy for the current political climate!) PS the scene with singing and dancing to Lizzo was the best- but too short.

Sign in to vote.It's very difficult to know whether or not a Netflix film has any potential because you really don't know the reasoning behind why it was put there in the first place. With surprise films like Set-It Up and most notably Roma, they've pretty much solidified themselves as a full-on distribution company into people's homes, release numerous fantastic pieces of entertainment, as well as some terrible stuff. While Someone Great definitely falls on the positive side for me, it's actually slightly forgettable. Let's see why or why not this film warrants any recommendations.
Following Jenny (Gina Rodriguez) after her very recent break-up, as she is about to move away from her friends and family, she decides to have one last wild night out on the town with her best friends. The premise itself is cliche and doesn't warrant much originality as the film progresses, but I have to admit that this is a cast that makes you believe in friendship. Although there are certainly a few unnecessary visual images in the film that felt forced, I will say these characters are all enjoyable to watch.
Gina Rodriguez is a fantastic performer in my opinion and I will always enjoy watching the films that she is a part of. With the welcome addition of Brittany Snow and DeWanda Wise, this is a trio of friends that I truly did buy into. That being said, LaKeith Stanfield as the ex-boyfriend was easily the highlight of the movie for me. He steals every scene of every movie he appears in and I don't think that will fade away for me anytime soon. His on-screen presence is electric, even though he's not in much of the film. For the performances alone, this is a worthwhile rom-com.
Sadly, even though the film concludes on a very real note and wraps the entirety of the film up in a nice way, the way certain story threads tie up throughout the second and third acts felt either forced or cliched in my opinion. Luckily, since the overall movie and cast are enjoyable, I was able to forgive these aspects and enjoy myself in the end. I can't quite get myself to recommend this movie to everyone, but it's a great Saturday afternoon Netflix watch if you have nothing to do. Solid performances, a solid soundtrack for the tone of the film, and an overall satisfying story.

It semms like the writers opened up Urban dictionary and took all the hashtaggy, instagrammy buzz words to sound young and hip. The whole movie is unrelateble, horribly stereotypical and unfunny. Not one good laugh! I'm a 30 year old female living in New York City, just like the main characters, but I don't know anyone who talks like that or acts like that. Maybe this is aimed at a teenage audience who thinks this is what cool girls do and talk like in NYC. Bad plot, bad dialogue, bad jokes.

This film showcased a beautiful love, the ups and downs, the hardships and choices that happen when two people share their love together, and then ultimately, the end. No it isn't your typically happy ending film, but the love between these two was special, and the relationship between these three girls, well it's what we all want. People in our corner, who support us, and hold us up when we need it.

Sign in to vote.I want to start out by saying I adore Gina Rodriguez and Brittany Snow. but this movie was a huge disappointment minus a few laughs. I'm a 29 year old female just like the main characters, and I was surprised and turned off by all the constant drug use in the movie. I love to have fun too, but glorifying Molly, seriously? Even besides that, it was an unsatisfying movie that left me yelling at the tv for the characters to make better life choices. This movie looked great from the previews but it was Not worth my time.

Sign in to vote.This break-up film is great because it has everything: it's a little bit sad, as it should be, but also has funny moments, portrays real situations and friendships, shows personal growth and the main focus is NOT to replace the man for another - let's face it, this would've ended differently if it'd been made in the 1990s -, it has representativity without making a big deal about it, and it's overall designed to be a feel-good film. Oh, and the soundtrack is also pretty good.

But the relationships kind of feel shallow. You're not really devastated by the break up because you don't know the central relationship at all.

It was enjoyably different than most rom-coms. The characters are very like able, well developed, and have great chemistry. While the storyline is a bit meandering; it's not the point of the movie. I thought the flashbacks paired well with the flow and tone of the movie.

Sign in to vote.Ugh, I went against my better judgment and watched this because I thought "How bad could a movie with Brittany Snow and Gina Rodriguez be, right?" WRONG. This was such a disappointing movie. The plot is painfully slow and boring. The ending was lackluster. And the INCESSANT drug references were obnoxious. Also how the heck is the main character, Jenny, able to come to such profound conclusions after having been drunk and high all day?! It's just a total disaster topped off with a million unnecessary F-bombs. It's a truly bothersome depiction of millennials today and another failed Netflix movie attempt.

It's nice to see a love story and a break-up story that you can actually identify with. It was so real and so raw it actually made me cry and hurt my heart, but I laughed a lot as well. It's very accurate to what relationships are now and the ending was amazing. I loved it!

I get that this isn't something that just happens, but taking a step in that direction is hard for anyone growing up. Being in your mid-late 20s is the weirdest time. Everyone you know is growing up, half way into their careers and adult lives. And I thought this movie showed how terrifying it is to make the tough choices in life. It comes easily to some and others need a little "do*by" boost to get there. There's too many "I don't do dr*gs" reviews over here so nevermind em n go watch this with your girlies.

Just literally so pointless and you have toooons of movies about a break up and girls getting hyped about it, just stop it already. oh yeah and awful ways of just putting the feminism thing whenever you can it's so forced and stupid, and also a big problem, promoting drinking and doing drugs as a way to cope with emotinal problems not to mention that they are 30 years old. such immature cringey cliché pointless movie come on people it's time to stop making movies like this it's 2019 ffs

Having such strong women support each other through some of the lows in life is truly what friendships especially women's friendships are about. I love Gina she's the reason I watched this film and Brittney Snow and when I saw Lakeith omgggggg done! Such an awesome cast. Yes it's a bit predictable, yes it's not full of a lot of surprises but aren't all romcoms somehow very similar. All of that is easily pushed aside and you can enjoy the story of this film. Plus the chemistry of the lead actors is so genuine you can tell they are friends outside the film. Last but not least the DIVERSITY. YESSS .
I loved it and encourage you to watch it.

I was expecting some form of happy ending like all the romance movies do. Even though that did not happen I like how they just ended the movie, beautiful piece.
